Join the legendary Hugh Masekela and his band featuring Vusi Mahlasela, Thandiswa and Lira at the Hackney Empire where they'll be paying tribute to Miriam Makeba in an all-star celebration.

Part of the Barbican's Blaze season - celebrating the venues and spaces of East London - Hugh Masekela is very much still at the top of his game. At 71, he's able to seamlessly move between funk, hip-hop and township jazz and he's also thrilled to be presenting some of South Africa's new generation of singers.

So the powerful voices of Vusi Mahlasela, Thandiswa and Lira will join the master horn player onstage at the Hackney Empire in a tribute to Miriam Makeba who died in 2008 at the age of 76 and who together with Hugh Masekela and others became the exiled voices of the anti-apartheid movement.

Tickets will cost £15, £20 and £25 (standing/seated) and can be obtained at the Barbican, box office: 0845 120 7550

Blaze, celebrating the best and boldest music events and venues in East London, runs from June 19 to July 29 and will be hosted at the Hackney Empire, Gillett Square, Wilton's Music Hall, the Barbican and Rich Mix.

It's presented by the Barbican and is part of the CREATE festival.
