Head of Research

Head of Research, Research, Education, Qualification, Public Sector An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a high profile client, based in Coventy. The Head of Research will lead the team that undertakes, commissions and draws on existing research to provide the business with robust and timely evidence in support of the full range of its regulatory activity.





Key responsibilities:

   » Making proposals to and working with the Director of Standards and Research to develop, and periodically to review and update research strategy
   » Leading the implementation and delivery of research strategy
   » Commissioning research projects to meet requirements
   » Leading and shaping debates with the wider research community and ensuring that maximises the potential synergies of working effectively with key research partners
   » Establishing and managing Research Advisory Panel to provide expert and wise advice on the development and implementation of research strategy
   » The quality and robustness of research and statistics produced by the Research team, ensuring that appropriate methodologies and approaches are deployed
   » The relevance of the work of the Research Team, and its alignment with the agreed research strategy
   » Working with other Research and Standards teams and other Directorates to deliver strategic objectives and encourage effective cross-team working at all levels
   » Providing reports on behalf of the Director of Standards and Research to the Executive and the Board.
   » Managing the performance of staff in delivering these responsibilities and providing timely and accurate management information
   » Developing the capability of teams and individuals
   » The financial management and control of the research budget and for the effective and efficient deployment of resources at all times



Key Skills and Experiences:

   » Substantial experience of developing and undertaking research and evaluation across a range of methodologies and contexts within education and training
   » Experience of undertaking innovative analysis and problem solving in a research context
   » Experience of managing the delivery of multiple research projects (internal and external), using appropriate project and programme management tools and disciplines and effective contract management
   » A good understanding of theories and techniques of pupil assessment
   » An understanding of current developments/standards setting/assessment
   » Advanced knowledge and experience of specialist software used for research
   » Understanding of the education, qualifications and assessment and policy context



Candidates will preferably have had experience of working in the education/qualification sector as well as within central government
