Senior Estimator - Civil Engineering Contractor THE COMPANY Our client is a well-established and leading Civil Engineering Contractor serving the South of England. The company has just completed another record year of growth. They are now looking for an Estimator to join their team at Head Office to work on tenders which will be Drawing & Specification, Bills of Quantity, Design & Build and Two Stage Bids.

JOB PROFILE & KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
   » Responsible to the Managing Director for the management and control of the Estimating function of the business encompassing all staff
   » To ensure that sufficient projects are procured to achieve the annual turnover and profit levels as set out in the Company's 3 year Business Plan, including a 40% rolling turnover.
   » The type and mix of projects and their value will be a critical success factor
   » To liaise closely with the Business Development Manager to ensure priority projects are identified
   » To produce weekly estimating workload schedules a rolling estimating workload programme which identifies milestones, dates and mid-term reviews if appropriate
   » To produce bi-monthly estimating statistics for discussion at Board Meetings
   » To produce quarterly estimating statistics which mirror the key market sectors and correlate with the criteria set out in the Business Plan
   » To allocate tenders as appropriate
   » To vet all tenders on arrival, identify areas of risk and opportunity and specific requirements set out in the Documents relating to (Conditions of Contract, Specifications, Programming restraints, Special Conditions)
   » Manage a formalised risk assessment register for all tenders
   » To prioritise tender opportunities and to liaise with (Buyer, Operations Manager on programming support for the larger or complex projects, Admin support)
   » To prepare programmes as appropriate for the smaller value contracts.
   » To ensure adequate time is given to the Tender review & Adjudication of bids (minimum 24 hours for smaller bids, review larger value bids 3 days prior to submission)
   » To be responsible for presenting fully appraised tender bids at the Adjudication meetings with risk and opportunity clearly identified
   » To maintain and update as appropriate the computerised Estimating system (Causeway)
   » To review and develop the supplier and sub-contractor database, thus ensuring competitive prices.
   » Develop where appropriate Supply Chain relationships with key suppliers/sub-contractors
   » To undertake take-offs as appropriate and where necessary, manage internal/external resources
   » To highlight variances in resource levelling between programme and tender elemental analysis
   » To identify opportunities for alternative bids, evaluate accordingly with an offer letter that clarifies the basis of the bid
   » To be responsible for signing tender documents
   » Develop a close team working relationship with the management team and support staff

ESSENTIAL SKILLS
   » Strong, proven experience as an Estimator (ideally 5 years worth)
   » Keen to take ownership of all areas of responsibility
   » Excellent communicator
   » Proficient with Microsoft software
   » Experience of the Causeway estimating system would be desirable but full training will be given if required
