Olympic Games Job Boost

6243 people are now employed in construction on the Olympic Park
Preparations for the 2012 Olympic Games in London have delivered a boon for the city’s construction indsutry, with more than 10,000 jobs
created in east London.

The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) has released statistics which show 6243 people are now employed in construction on the Olympic Park in Stratford, with nearly half of those London residents.

Another 4090 construction jobs have been created by the development of the nearby athletes’ village.

ODA chairman John Armitt said: “In a tough time for the construction industry we are providing jobs for more than 10,000 workers and meeting our commitments to safety, training and employing local people and apprentices.”

The knock-on effect of the Games is that construction recruitment has been markedly boosted by the associated transformation of east London, which is the largest regeneration project underway in Britain.
