So what are the most sought-after jobs in New Zealand these days? Call centre positions – if the latest report from recruitment firm Hays is anything to go by.

“The number of people looking for work in telephone call centres has grown dramatically,” it says.

But Hays New Zealand director Jason Walker warned that candidates need a history within the sector.

“Employers will question the motives and commitment of someone who hasn’t worked in a contact centre for 10 years but suddenly seeks a return.”
Hays’ report said the dramatic rise in the candidate flow for contact centre work was particularly strong among those new to the workforce.
