A rare rise in jobs

Businesses still exercise caution when it comes to hiring new staff
There was a significant rise in job opportunities last month, according to the UK’s Monster Employment Index.

The education, training, library, management and consulting sectors saw the most activity.

However, job opportunities were down by 39 per cent compared to February 2008.

Hugo Sellert, head of economic research at Monster Worldwide, said: “The UK online recruitment market expanded for the first time in four months.”

However, Sellert warned that “longer-term recruitment trends remain down” as businesses still exercise caution when it comes to hiring new staff, because of the uncertain outlook for 2009.
